


‘Oedipus and Us’, a visual speculation on Greek tragedy
Designed for Pollock’s Cardboard Challenge - 2020
In his controversial 2019 essay, philosopher Simon Critchley endeavoured to read the hardship and ambiguity of the present through the lens of Greek tragedy. Through a series of tragedy masks fashioned out of carboard and roughly painted, I draw a parallel between the global infectious diseases of our time and Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, which is set against the backdrop of an epidemic.
